Israeli leader: Palestinian state in Israel’s interests
It is sometimes lost in the back-and-forth over President Obama’s push for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that such a resolution is in Israel’s core security interests as a Jewish, democratic homeland.
Here’s what the Leader of the Kadima Party and the current Israeli opposition Tzipi Livni said recently about the two-state solution:
“Dividing the land into two states is in Israeli interests. My ideology is not connected to the Palestinians. I don’t think that I’m doing them a favor. My ultimate goal is the nature of the State of Israel as a Jewish state. The vision is not Jews living in the land of Israel but Jews living in a democratic state, which means a Jewish majority.” [1]
Whenever someone challenges the President’s commitment to Israel’s security, they should be reminded pursuing a two-state solution peace is not some naïve goal – rather, as Livni says forcefully, it is the only way to provide real security to Israel.
